I seek leave to amend general business notice of motion No. 444 standing in my name by adding the word ‘peacefully’ before the word ‘protest’ in paragraph (a) and by removing the word ‘condemns’ in paragraph (b) and inserting the words ‘has concern about’.

Leave granted.

I move the motion as amended:

That the Senate—

(a)
supports the rights of Indigenous peoples living in the Peruvian Amazon to peaceful protest against the exploitation of their ancestral lands by oil, logging and mining companies; and
(b)
has concern about the violence that occurred when police tried to break-up protests and resulted in injuries and deaths of protestors and police officers.

Question agreed to.
